What do Solar Energy and Pilates have in common?
It seems like a strange question but read on. There are times when you just don’t feel like practicing Pilates-who feels motivated 100% of the time?
The sun doesn’t shine all the time either, but when it does, it is an infinitely powerful source of renewable energy, and you can collect that energy and use it to recharge your batteries.
If you let your batteries run too low you will feel sluggish and it will seem like too much effort to do ANYTHING to make yourself feel better.
If you use Pilates to recharge yourself for even a few minutes on a regular basis, you have more energy and can do everything easier and more effectively – including relax.
As a Pilates instructor, I do my own, rehab like workout at least 2x a week. (View this short video clip for a sneak peek) In addition I take a weekly duet with another instructor. This is essential for keeping me connected to the work, providing outside eyes for my own body and helping me to be a better teacher. Having someone counting on me as a duet partner also is motivation to be present. Remember also that, even in a group class, your energy is important and is missed when you are not present.
There are days when you feel like doing your Pilates, and days when you just don’t. Those are the times when you need to forge ahead, one foot in front of the other and just GET THERE. As the sun can provide energy to your devices and home…the practice of Pilates provides energy to your body, mind and spirit. Though you expend energy in class, you inevitably leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and renewed. Pilates IS your “automatic recharging station”.
I leave you with a quote by my esteemed teacher, Martha Graham.
“We learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same…. One becomes in some area an athlete of God.”
